I had bought a zd8000 series 17 dash laptop 5 years ago. And not had a single scrape with it.
So I went relieve to HP for this model. The zd8000 is a p4 and cannot chomp high def video.
This computer, dv7 3060us can chomp/edit the high def video. You'll be able to hook up that 500 $ canon
high def camcorder to it and dawdle easily. Which is what I was looking for. Using magic edit movie pro 15
when I added 3D titles, it began to struggle and the cpu went to 100 %.
Hehehe, this is to be expected. Regular titles are no sweat. I'm having no probs with high def playback.
Came sealed in the box, which is a +++ Nothing cheeky.
I seen someone complain about the chrome touchpad in another review, fill me, its a non jabber.
I stare someone else complain about fingerprints, contain me, its also a non mutter.
This computer is high tech looking, and when I compare it to my frail zd8000 it sits lower
but is wider. My wrists are very glad with this lower area, valid work HP.
Super wide comfortable keypad ....
I'm also using this laptop to do multi tracking with music, and so far, no hiccups for that.
Working like a dream for multi tracking.
Windows 7 on this will boot up in about a miniature, which is very nice also.
For the money, its a tremendous laptop, estimable update for me.
Everything is suitable except the shinny body and keyboard which literally absorbs fingerprints.Be ready to trim this laptop every 2 days. Other than that it is perfect. The battery life is lovely marvelous for the 17.3 incher, it last for up too 2.5 hours of normal spend.Gamers will enjoy that this machine easily handles GTA IV at advance 720p resolution. Thanks to it's Q9000 processor and HD4650 video card.
The cons:
1) No roll benefit of OS as drivers are scarce for XP
2) Achieve is easily tarnished leading to pseudo-professional discover. Gateways 'fingerprint resistant' carry out around for years.
3) Most jacks are to the sides leading to an untidy setup. Some newer standard jacks not labelled .
4) Blu-ray ROM should have been included for price
5) No Installation/Driver Disk included in case hard drive files are unuseable.
6) keys are easily incorrect as it difficult to feel the boundaries of keys.
7) Conceal is somewhat dimmer than expected for this class of machine
Alternate function keys are difficult to discern as they are all in WHITE
9) backlit keys would be a lot more useful than the backlit HP logo
The Pros:
1) meets performance specifications. 3D rendering in Autodesk Revit is brisk.
2) wide cover for those doing Arch/Engineering drawings.
3) temperature is lower than i would inquire of for 7200rpm HDD and quad core processor i.e. frosty to hands
4) relatively calm fan sounds more like ambient noise
5) no latches to shatter during originate and end process
6) Burly keyboard is a plus to those using programs for Accounting, Engineering,
7) Relatively slim and average 8+lbs weight considering size.

9) sound is crisp and elephantine of depth with subwoofer built-in
10) Crome looking accents add aesthetics are compensate for 'dust and sweat magnet' finish
11) Cloak is crisp although I peaceful contain additional brightness would welcomed by most users
12) although I own keys should be better constructed as they are the considerable input they are adequately firm to the touch to compensate for the lack in chamfered or indented or dished keys.
Verdict: sizable machine that requires greater belief into the ergonomics, appearance and overall construct.
